Private-party RV scam and payment safety
Sep 9, 2026 · For sellers and buyers on this marketplace.
An RV is a large cash sale. Scammers copy the same scripts they use on Facebook: overpay with a fake check, “escrow” on a lookalike site, a shipping agent, or a buyer who is “deployed” and cannot view the coach. We hide seller emails on listing pages and block those phrases on the contact form. You still have to refuse the rest in person.
Never do these
- Wire money, gift cards, crypto, or “the difference” to a third party.
- Accept a cashier’s check for more than asking and refund the extra.
- Register on a random escrow or vehicle-history site the other party sent.
- Agree to ship the RV sight-unseen off the Grand Strand.
- Move the first conversation to text from a brand-new email.
Do this instead
- Meet at the listed town — Myrtle Beach, Conway, storage lot, or park office.
- Bring a friend. Daylight. Take photos of the VIN and title together.
- Pay with a method your bank will stand behind after funds actually clear. Title signs when you have the coach.
- Sellers: use your private edit link to read buyer messages. Do not publish your phone on the ad if you can avoid it.
Full buying steps, including SC title notes: buy a used RV in Horry County. Need a local move after the sale? Sell & Tow.
