Before you buy used towing gear
Tow dollies and flat-tow kits: check the weight rating against your car, look at tire age and the straps, and ask whether it has brakes and current paperwork. Confirm your car can be towed that way in its owner's manual.
Hitches and tow bars: match the rating to what you tow, and look for cracks, bent pins and heavy rust. Salt air is hard on steel here.
Surge protectors: buy the right amperage (30 or 50 amp) for your RV and test it at the pedestal before you rely on it.
