Winterize and summerize for SC coast weather

Sep 9, 2026

Horry County is not a hard-freeze climate most winters, but it is brutal on A/C, roofs, and anything metal. Copy-pasting a Midwest “blow out every line in October” list misses the local failure mode: humidity, salt, and 90-degree campground months.

Summer

Service roof A/Cs before June. Keep filters and shrouds clean. Watch slide seals in the heat. If the unit sits in a park, black streaks and roof chalking show up fast — wash before they bake in.

Shoulder and winter

If you leave for the off-season, still protect water lines for the few freeze nights, skip leaving tanks nasty, and do not store wet cushions. Inland storage is drier than an oceanfront pad. Snowbirds on monthly sites should read long-term campsite rates so they are not paying summer nightly prices in January.

Motorhomes

Class A, B, and C still need chassis oil, generator oil, and a periodic inspection whether it is July or January. That is Beach Ford, Beach Truck & RV, or Blue Compass — listed under motorhome oil and inspections. Mobile leak techs do not replace that.
